About

The Centre for Business and Commercial Laws  (CBCL) was established as a “Centre for Excellence” in 2008 to generate awareness and facilitate research in the field of corporate and commercial laws in India. CBCL has produced a rich output of research contributing to the legal discourse in the country in the field of corporate and commercial laws.

In 2017, the CBCL Blog was launched as a one-stop web portal for practitioners and law students to receive the latest news regarding business laws and to provide access to all the events and initiatives by CBCL. For the CBCL Blog, we invite submissions from students and practitioners on issues relevant to the areas of corporate law, securities law, insolvency law, banking law, capital markets, and securities law, competition law and taxation law. CBCL also publishes its annual journal called the NLIU Journal of Business Laws (JBL). The fifth edition of the journal is currently underway. Further, the Corporate Brief is CBCL’s newsletter written by its editors on a monthly basis. It provides a quick overview of significant updates and concepts in the commercial law landscape and ensures that the students and professionals are abreast of such developments.

Started in 2014, CBCL also organises the annual NLIU-Trilegal Summit on Corporate and Commercial Laws to provide a forum where participants can engage in discussions and interactions with industry experts. The summit entails the presentation of select 15 papers chosen by CBCL’s editorial team in collaboration with Trilegal, themed on the contemporary developments in the corporate and commercial landscape.

Further, CBCL conducts various certificate courses with leading law firms in the country such as the NLIU-Khaitan & Co. Certificate Course on Corporate Laws, the NLIU-Saraf and Partners Certificate Course on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws, the NLIU-Indus Law Certificate Course on Capital Markets, as well as the NLIU-AZB & Partners Course on Sustainable Energy Laws. These certificate courses are aimed at providing students with practical experience and a conceptual understanding of different topics under the umbrella of commercial laws.
